Un premio meritato / A deserved prize
Proprio oggi ho scoperto l'opera di Norman Borlaug, agronomo americano che ha portato l'agricoltura ad alta resa in Pakistan ed India - rendendo questi paesi autosufficienti; ed ora sta tentando di fare lo stesso in Africa. Nonostante il suo lavoro abbia salvato la vita di molte persone, il suo nome resta pressoché sconosciuto. Borlaug ha pure vinto un Nobel per la pace.
Questa é la sua storia, e come molti altri scienziati che hanno realizzato grandi imprese, ha dovuto lottare contro gli ambientalisti da salotto, ignoranti, ciechi ed ottusi, che sono riusciti a tagliare di molto i finanziamenti ai suoi progetti.
La stupiditá e' il nostro peggiore nemico.
Norman Borlaug is a non-famous man - I've just read about his deeds. But he did something huge: he brought high-yield agricolture. to India and Pakistan, making those countries self-sustaining. And now he's trying to do the same in Africa. Borlaug also won a Nobel Peace Prize.
During the course of his life he had to fight against many difficulties, the greatest being the blind, obtuse, ignorant metropolitan ambientalists. They even managed to slash the funds for Borlaug's projects.
Human stupidity is obviously our own worst enemy.
