Bad Start of the Week

When you arrive at your office on a Monday morning, turn on your PC - yes, the one you use to do your work, the one with the dedicated software and all your documents - and you see it freezing on a Blue Screen of Death during boot. It's one shitty way to start your week, I tell you.

Update 19:10 GMT: I plodded through the whole day on this other machine I have in the lab. It's not just the bad start of the day; my intellectualy energies seem to be quite depleted at the end of a 4-years project.

Anyway, the diagnosis was: Corrupted system files. It wouldn't be too difficult to reinstall Win2k, but the IT department here prefers to upgrade to WinXP Pro. But the minimum disk space for the installation of the whole corporate software suit (WinXP, Office, accessories and some specific software) is 10GB - exactly the capacity of the hard drive of that old workhorse. A new hard disk is the most cost-effective solution now.
